“Customers have been searching for ways to get started going green without having to make huge investments in new hardware and software, disrupting their current operations, or installing invasive technologies. Cassatt can help them today and provide compelling ROI at each step along the way.”

Bill Coleman, CEO, Cassatt

Making Data Centers More Efficient, More Agile, More Green

Founded in 2003, Cassatt was conceived as a result of large data centers' increasing operational complexity and decreasing economies-of-scale. Point-product solutions were only adding to managerial difficulties, and massive manual processes were being used to deal with equipment intricacies and interrelationships.

Cassatt's software helps manage your data center infrastructure differently.
To Cassatt, IT efficiency is achieved not from point-products and efficient equipment, but from intelligent operation of your IT infrastructure - holistic management of power, hardware, software, virtualization, and network resources.

How to Build a Compute Cloud with What You Have

Since our inception, Cassatt has championed the vision of managing data centers like a "compute utility." And now, as the industry begins to explore the possibilities of cloud computing, we are helping transform the vision into reality within the four walls of your data center.

Cassatt's offerings leverage our extensive data center expertise and technology to help customers implement cloud-style computing environments using their existing systems, inside the firewalls of their data centers, without having to modify their current hardware or software. The resulting "internal cloud" can provide the same operational efficiency, fault tolerance, and energy savings promised by external clouds, but without the worries over security, compliance, lack of control, or the need or delay required to change or replace their current applications.

We think internal cloud computing is the key to data center efficiency. And, because of that, internal clouds can't be limited to only one type of virtualization or operating system. With Cassatt, customers can control and optimize the many types of hardware, operating systems, virtualization, and network resources that they already have - and they can start today.

Designed for real-world data centers

Cassatt's design principles are straightforward and focused on what will help you run your data centers most effectively: support application service levels (SLAs) at all times, maintain hardware and software platform neutrality, and leverage and automate intelligent policy-based decision-making.

The result of these design principles is that our software does not require software agents or re-architecting applications; it operates equivalently with physical or virtual servers from any vendor; it measures and responds to changes in service levels, whether from changes in user demand or failure of equipment; it generates run-time properties such as capacity "elasticity" and infrastructure self-healing.

Value, uses, and solutions

Cassatt software provides IT operations with holistic value in the areas of energy efficiency, application availability, and resource repurposing, providing especially compelling solutions for data center consolidation, migration, and disaster recovery. And the resulting savings can be on the order of 50 percent of the total data center operations budget. We can help make your IT operations more agile, while saving costs in three ways:
  • Power savings: Using the Cassatt Active Power ManagementTM technology, servers are only powered-on when needed to maintain service levels, and gracefully shut-down when not needed or idle.
  • Capital savings: Achieved through re-purposing of pooled "bare metal" servers on an as-needed, demand-based basis. This reduces the need for over provisioning and granular capacity planning. All the time increasing overall efficiency of working capital.
  • Operational savings: Cassatt applies policies to handle scaling-in or scaling-out of physical servers, to manage the provisioning of hardware, software and virtualization (if used), to manage the detection and replacement of failed equipment, and to manage the migration of entire data centers (including network configurations) in the case of disasters.

The Cassatt Active Response product line

Rather than simply monitoring IT service Levels, Cassatt Active Response actually takes actions on the infrastructure to maintain service levels and to optimize overall efficiencies. These actions can be as simple as power control to optimize energy consumption, or as advanced as repurposing bare-metal servers and re-configuring network switches and load-balancers. All while maintaining software service levels within predetermined thresholds.
