Energy Efficiency in the Data Center Survey Data

In December 2007, Cassatt polled its customer database to learn more about their plans and approach to energy efficiency technologies. From the 215 responses we received from IT professionals and facilities managers we learned several interesting facts:

• 63% of respondents are either working on a data center energy-efficiency project now or expect to within the next year.  
• 43% of respondents have a data center that is within 25% of its maximum power capacity.   
• 61% of respondents are aware that the EPA recommends turning off idle servers to save energy, but over 30% say they don’t know how many servers are idle at any given time.
• Server power management software is the energy saving strategy that large companies selected most frequently as their next step for the future (29%).
