CASSATT ACTIVE RESPONSE FEATURE PACKS

The Cassatt Active Response product line includes feature packs to support important additional functionality.

With Cassatt Active Response, Standard Edition, a feature pack to support communication with particular utility companies' demand curtailment programs is available.

With Cassatt Active Response, Premium and Data Center editions, a feature pack to support optimizing the use of BEA WebLogic is available.

PG&E Feature Pack
Available with Cassatt Active Response, Standard Edition

The PG&E Feature Pack provides a real-time connection to the Demand Response program from Pacific Gas & Electric. The PG&E Feature Pack “listens” for pricing schedules and critical alerts from PG&E and works in conjunction with Cassatt Active Response to take actions on these notifications from PG&E.

During critical power usage periods, typically hot summer days in Northern California, the electric grid can not keep pace with the demand. During these critical periods, the price for electricity can increase by up to five fold, and rolling black-outs are a possibility.

By using the PG&E Feature Pack in conjunction with Cassatt Active Response, customer can avoid these costly rate increases. When a critical alert is received, the PG&E Feature Pack activates a corresponding power-reduction policy in Cassatt Active Response. The policy is structured to meet the power-reduction targets that have been previously defined with PG&E. When the critical period has passed, the PG&E Feature Pack will return to the normal power policies that should be in effect.

Availability

The Cassatt PG&E Feature Pack will be available with the release of Cassatt Active Response 5.0, Standard Edition.

WebLogic Feature Pack
Available with Cassatt Active Response Premium and Data Center editions

WebLogic Feature Pack Reduces Costs, Increases Agility in J2EE

Embracing server consolidation requires that you acquire and reserve sufficient capacity to handle peak loads. The problem? If your IT department is providing critical services via Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) applications, it may be difficult to achieve the full benefits of server consolidation, while at the same time automatically maintaining the application server levels that your business requires. Typically, J2EE applications do not lend themselves to server consolidation so by dedicating hardware for peak loads, it means as much as 90 percent of your Java application resources may go unused most of the time. The WebLogic Feature Pack changes that by bringing the benefits of virtualization to the world of J2EE applications and Web services.

As an extension to the Cassatt Active Response product line, the WebLogic Feature Pack combines enables you to manage service-level agreements automatically. In fact, with Cassatt Active Response and this feature pack you can optimizes your J2EE applications, middleware and hardware.

Optimizing Your Java Applications

With the WebLogic Feature Pack, your IT departments can keep capital expenses to a minimum, while dramatically reducing operating costs and driving up the utilization of the hardware and software you already have in place. The Cassatt software creates a virtual pool of Java application resources— hardware, operating systems and middleware— freeing them to be used by all the applications in your enterprise. Then, Cassatt automatically, and without human intervention, matches applications to appropriate resources to meet the service levels needs of all of your critical Java applications.

Running BEA WebLogic J2EE Services Under Cassatt Software Control

The WebLogic Feature Pack provides specific, automated management and control capabilities for applications built using BEA WebLogic Server 8 and 9— enabling your organization to innovate and deliver new capabilities at a fraction of the cost. The software maximizes the existing resources by pooling virtual resources, and breaking the tight coupling between J2EE applications, the BEA WebLogic Server, and hardware. In fact, Cassatt automates many of the manual processes so that applications built on BEA WebLogic Server run at their optimum best. Key advantages of using Cassatt Active Response with the WebLogic Feature Pack include:
  • Java applications are automatically assigned additional computing resources when performance falls below your user-defined goals
  • Failed hardware is automatically replaced and new Java application servers are brought into service in minutes
  • Resources for hundreds of Java applications can be drawn from a single shared pool of servers— dramatically improving utilization levels
  • Deployment time for new Java applications can be dramatically shortened by eliminating the need to acquire dedicated hardware for each new application

Easy Installation— Speeds Deployment Time, Reduces Costs

The Cassatt software requires no code changes to existing applications, middleware, or operating systems. This means you get up and running on Cassatt software quickly, and spend less on hardware, software, and labor costs.
